In the last decade, several studies of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PA
H) in ambient air in the U.S. specifically investigated (1) the sampling ef
ficiency of two sorbents for PAH in air: XAD-2 and polyurethane foam (PUF);
(2) the storage stability of PAH on quartz fiber filters and the sorbents;
(3) the phase distribution of ambient PAH; and (4) total PAH concentration
s tin both vapor and particulate phases) in ambient air. This paper summari
zes their findings.
