A soluble polymer with a limited pi-conjugation length, containing thi
ophene hexamers in the main chain; was prepared by reductive condensat
ion. The obtained polymer was soluble in common organic solvents and c
ast; to films. The films doped with FeCl3 showed considerable conducti
vities, 0.4-0.2 S/cm. The absorption spectra of the FeCl3-doped films
indicated the predominant presence of one-electron oxidized species (p
olarons) and the instability of plural-electron oxidized species on th
e polymer chain in the atmosphere.
