Hj. Chen et Sy. Tsai, FAULT-DYNAMIC MODELING IN SAFETY ANALYSIS OF A BENZENE CHLORINATOR, Journal of the Chinese Institute of Chemical Engineers, 28(3), 1997, pp. 163-173
Fault-dynamic modeling has been applied for analysis of a potentially
hazardous situation in a benzene chlorinator. Traditional fault-tree a
nalysis is used to determine the combinations of component failures th
at can lead to a particular process upset condition. Realistic dynamic
-modeling is then used to calculate the time available for corrective
action once the upset has started. The result of the analysis shows th
e time required for reaction runaway (temperature excursion toward 500
K) is about 1.9 hours.
