Manganese monoantimonide, Mn(III)Sb, was investigated by means of near
-IR, visible and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies. The near-IR spect
ra allowed us to locate experimentally the energetic positions of the
Mn 3d orbitals and to compare them with the calculated energy levels d
iagram reported by Coehoorn et al. (Phys. Rev. B, 31 (1985) 1980). The
measured Mn 3d bandwidth confirms the presence of a Mn 3d-Sb 5p hybri
dization. Two further transitions at higher energy, were detected in b
oth the visible and the XPS spectroscopies, and assigned to interband
