Abstract
The viscosity virial coefficient characteristic of a moderately concentrate d dispersion [and proportional to the Huggins coefficient] is calculated fo r electrostatically stabilized monodisperse suspensions of spherical colloi d particles. The energy of interaction between two colloid particles is mod eled as the sum of dispersion (van der Waals) and electric double-layer con tributions. Comparisons of theoretical predictions and experimental data pe rmit conclusions to be drawn about the adequacy of this model. (C) 1999 Aca demic Press.
