The far-infrared spectra of Li-Zn mixed ferrites have been studied in the f
requency range 700-200 cm(-1). Four absorption bands are observed. The high
frequency band (nu(1)) is assigned to the tetrahedral complexes, while the
absorption bands nu(2) and nu(3) are attributed to the octahedral complexe
s. On the other hand, the lowest frequency band (nu(4)) is attributed to th
e lattice vibrations of tetrahedral metal ions. The observed results can be
explained on the basis of Fe2+ concentration. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.
