Results of a study of the properties of the metal of three model rotors man
ufactured from vacuum-degassed open-hearth steel 36KhN3MFA melted by differ
ent methods are presented It is recommended that standard generator rotors
be manufactured from a mixture of acid and basic melted steel. Two rotor pr
eforms for a 1200-MW generator were manufactured and studied. The forging a
nd heat-treatment techniques for the rotor preforms are described. The prop
erties of the metal of these preforms are shown to correspond to the requir
ements of the specifications.
