The elastic scattering of Li-6,Li-7, C-12,C-13,C-14, N-14, O-16 and Si-28 f
rom a. number of nuclei between C-12 and Pb-208 have been studied within th
e framework of the 3-parameter formalism of the Strong Absorption Model (SA
M) of Frahn and Venter. The description to elastic scattering data by the m
odel parameters Lambda, Delta and mu is fairly reasonable throughout the wh
ole angular range. The interaction radius R and surface diffuseness d are d
etermined from the best; fit parameters. The mean standard nuclear radius p
arameter ro extracted from this study is 1.61 fm, in good agreement with li
terature quoted values, while the diffuseness d is fairly constant. The ine
lastic scattering of C-14 from Ca-40 and Sr-88 and N-14 from Mg-24 and Si-2
8 populating the lowest 2(+) state and also the inelastic scattering of C-1
4 from Ca-40 leading to the lowest 3(-) state have been analyzed using the
parameters obtained from the elastic scattering with no further adjustment
at all. The quadrupole and octupole deformation parameters beta(2) and beta
(3), respectively, are extracted from the analyses. The deformation paramet
er values are in reasonable agreement with previous studies.
