Abstract
The professional practice of clinical breast examination (CBE) is a crucial element in early detection of neoplasms, but it is often compromised by in sufficient formal training and conflicting demands on professional time. Fr om an extensive research base, a training technology has been developed whi ch generates highly proficient CBE. This technology is being adopted by age ncies concerned with improved screening for breast cancer. New strategies f or enhancing the role of CBE in breast cancer detection might include train ing and licensing personnel whose primary function would be to perform high ly proficient CBE under professional supervision.
