The professional practice of clinical breast examination (CBE) is a crucial
element in early detection of neoplasms, but it is often compromised by in
sufficient formal training and conflicting demands on professional time. Fr
om an extensive research base, a training technology has been developed whi
ch generates highly proficient CBE. This technology is being adopted by age
ncies concerned with improved screening for breast cancer. New strategies f
or enhancing the role of CBE in breast cancer detection might include train
ing and licensing personnel whose primary function would be to perform high
ly proficient CBE under professional supervision. Copyright (C) 1999 by W.B
