Abstract
Variance minimization and Monte Carlo integration are used to evaluate the four-component Dirac equation for a number of one-electron atomic and diato mic systems. This combination produces accurate energies, is relatively sim ple to implement, and exhibits few of the problems associated with traditio nal techniques. [S1063-651X(99)09709-3].
