Abstract
Measurements of the energy density of energetic particles (20 keV to 5 MeV) and the magnetic field by the Ulysses spacecraft are surveyed both in and out of the Ecliptic. As expected, periods of dominant magnetic energy were observed most of the time, for the above particle energy range. However a n umber of distinct periods were identified when the energy density carried b y the energetic ions overwhelmingly dominated that in the magnetic field. T hese high-P, periods were frequently associated with regions of "magnetic h oles" or intense shock acceleration. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rig hts reserved.
