Measuring striation widths

We investigate the numerical resolution required for a chaotically advected material interface, the goal being accurate calculation of striation width s generated by fluid mixing. Our new criterion for adequate resolution demo nstrates that a previous criterion is unduly pessimistic about the prospect s for resolution of thin striations. We recommend a protocol for numerical calculations of striation widths to ensure adequate resolution. (C) 1999 El sevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
