E. Stephan et V. Dzapo, HISTOMETRIC INVESTIGATION OF THE BREAST M USCLE OF LAYING AND MEAT GENOTYPE IN THE COURSE OF GAINING WEIGHT, Archiv fur Geflugelkunde, 61(2), 1997, pp. 62-65
The histometric structure of the M. pectoralis spf. was investigated o
f male meat and lying genotyp chicken in the course of growth io 17.th
week. With the employment oi the automatic picture analysis system CB
A 8000 it was feseable to measure quickly and objectively the cross-se
ctional area (mu m(2)), the circumference (mu m), the circle-diameter
(mu m) and the shapefactor of the muscle fibres. With help of the shap
efactor, the mean cross-sectional area (mu m(2)) and their standard de
viation giant fibres-parameter could be constructed which made possibl
e an objective detection of the giant Fibres. The meat-genotyps were a
bsolutely superior to the laying genotyps in all classic histometric p
arameters. The cross-sectional area of the meat-genotyp was 354 mu m(2
) greater than the laying genotyp and the percentage content of the gi
ant fibres is within the meat genotyp greater than in laying genotyp.
Based on the extrem different body weight evolution of the two genotyp
s the giant fibres could be interpreted as an indicator of a disarrang
ed metabolism of the sceletal muscle.
