Electrochemically activated reactions of metallation and arylation of C-60
are examined. A convenient method of synthesizing exohedral complexes of th
e C60ML2 type (M = Pd, Pt; L = Ph3P) is developed. The method is based on t
he electrochemical generation of anions C-60(2-) and their subsequent react
ion with complexes [M(Ph3P)(2)Cl-2, MCl2] of bivalent metals. A possibility
of realizing electrochemically activated reactions of fullerene arylation
by means of Ph2IBF4 is shown.
