K. Sasaki et al., INHIBITION OF 5-AMINOLEVULINIC ACID (ALA) DEHYDRATASE BY UNDISSOCIATED LEVULINIC ACID DURING ALA EXTRACELLULAR FORMATION BY RHODOBACTER-SPHAEROIDES, Biotechnology letters, 19(5), 1997, pp. 421-424
The inhibition of ALA dehydratase by levulinic acid during ALA extrace
llular formation of Rhodobacter sphaeroides correlated with the concen
tration of undissociated form of levulinic acid irrespective of cultur
e pH. The inhibition constant, Ki, of intracellular ALA dehydratase by
Dixon plots was 2.95 mu M. Undissociated levulinic acid therefore fun
ctions as an inhibitor of ALA dehydratase.
