Jp. Van Gigch, Deconstructing the problem of comparing the conflicting imperatives of technology and sustainability, SYST RES BE, 16(5), 1999, pp. 429-436
This paper shows how systems science can clarify the debate and outline the
basic differences between technology and sustainability. Deconstruction is
a process by which the various meanings of a concept are ascertained. It i
s used to draw the characteristics of technology and sustainability. Each o
f these two concepts is driven by imperatives which are in conflict with ea
ch other. The discussion infers how they can be reconciled. Copyright (C) 1
