Hs. Wu et Hc. Jone, KINETIC-STUDY AND CHARACTERIZATION OF POLY(ACRYLIC ACID) AND METAL-OXIDE, Industrial & engineering chemistry research, 36(6), 1997, pp. 2006-2011
In this work, we investigated a kinetic study of the reaction between
poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and metal oxides (MO: ZnO, CaO, CuO, Al2O3, C
r2O3) by using infrared spectroscopic techniques. The experimental dat
a were quantified by a base-line method. The amounts of reactant, reac
tion time, mixing speed, solvents, and temperature were also evaluated
to derive the optimum condition in this reaction. The reaction patter
ns for PAA-MO reaction were discussed. The order of reactivity was CaO
> ZnO > CuO > Al2O3 > Cr2O3 The reactions of CuO, Al2O3, and Cr2O3 wi
th PAA did not go to completion. The structures of ZnO and CaO could b
e seen as representing a metal bridge structure linking two polymer ch
ains.
