The crystal structure of [Sn(CH3)(3)(C9H10NO4S)](n) contains polymeric chai
ns wherein each trimethyltin moiety bridges two neighboring N-maleoylmethio
ninate ligands via carboxyl moieties. The Sn atom has a distorted trigonal-
bipyramidal geometry, with three methyl groups in the equatorial plane [mea
n Sn-C 2.126 (6) Angstrom]. The carboxyl O atoms bonded to the Sn atom in t
he axial positions have significantly different Sn-O bond lengths [2.152 (6
) and 2.484 (6) Angstrom].
