The thermal decompositions of [MoO3(2,2'-bipy)], [Mo2O6(2,2'-bipy)], and [M
o3O9(2,2'-bipy)(2)] have been studied by Raman spectroscopy. Upon heating,
[MoO3(2,2'-bipy)] loses 2,2'-bipyridine and converts to MoO3 through a stab
le intermediate, [Mo2O6(2,2'-bipy)], whereas [Mo3O9(2,2'-bipy)(2)] loses 2,
2'-bipyridine and transforms to MoO(3)directly. Vibrational assignments for
[Mo3O9(2,2'-bipy)], [Mo2O6(2,2'-bipy)], and [Mo3O9(2,2'-bipy)(2)] are prop
osed.
