An arachnoid cyst involving only the hypoglossal nerve: case report and review of the literature

We describe a patient with an arachnoid cyst, possibly of traumatic origin, at the hypoglossal canal producing atrophy of the tongue. An arachnoid cys t should be considered in the differential diagnosis of any patient with a localized cystic mass around the cranial nerves at the base of the skull.
