K. Sugiura et al., INTERACTIONS OF 2 PORPHYRIN RINGS - METAL-INDUCED STRUCTURAL-CHANGE OF 5,5'-ETHYLENEBIS(PORPHYRIN), Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan, 70(5), 1997, pp. 1115-1123
5,5'-ethylenebis(octaethylporphyrin) 1 and its metallocomplexes with v
arious combination of metals (Zn, Cu, and Ni) 2-10 were prepared. On t
he basis of H-1 and C-13 NMR as well as MCD spectra, it was concluded
that interactions between the two intramolecular porphyrins become att
ractive when at least one of the two rings is converted to zinc porphy
rin. The phenomenon was explained by dipole-dipole interaction arising
from the large polarization in Zn complexes.
