Abstract
Pulse oximetry is a noninvasive patient monitoring technique which provides a continuous estimate of arterial hemoglobin saturation. Information obtai ned from pulse oximetry is used in conjunction with other clinical findings to assist in the management of the anesthetized or critically ill animals. This brief article provides background on the principles of pulse oximetry and reviews its clinical application in the cat.
