This paper documents research into a new type of low-cost silicon-based bro
ad-range (25 degrees C-500 degrees C) temperature sensor targeted for use i
n household appliances. Conventional temperature sensing devices, such as p
latinum thermistors, are expensive to apply to cost-sensitive appliance mar
kets. The data and manufacturing process presented in this paper suggest do
ped silicon sensors are a feasible lower cost alternative to their platinum
counterparts.
