Abstract
A van der Waals-based description of a system that approximates a Lennard-J ones fluid is presented as a density functional theory. Numerical calculati ons of the density and tension profiles for the planar liquid-vapor interfa ce, the wall-fluid interface, and the wall-liquid-vapor interface are made for this system. The forces associated with capillary rise are determined. (C) 1999 American Institute of Physics. [S0021-9606(99)51735-2].
