The electronic structure of DyCo3B2 compound has been studied by X-ray phot
oemission spectroscopy (XPS) and the ab initio self-consistent tight bindin
g linear muffin tin orbital (TB LMTO) method. We have found a good agreemen
t between the experimental XPS valence band spectrum and theoretical LMTO c
alculations. Results showed that the DyCo3B2 compound is magnetically order
ed with a small magnetic moment on the cobalt atom, which is antiparallel t
o the dysprosium moment. The values of the magnetic moments on Co atoms str
ongly depend on the local environment. We have also compared the electronic
structure and magnetic properties of DyCo3B2 compound with those of the Dy
