Abstract
The 1990s saw increases in thefts of newspapers. In some cases, the prosecu tors did not bring charges because they misunderstood the value of newspape rs. This article addresses legal and economic issues surrounding theft of n ewspapers, and it develops a set of equations for estimating the monetary v alue of stolen copies. The equations can be used to determine the magnitude of loss from newspaper theft.
