This study investigated positive and negative coauthor behaviors in the pro
cess of collaborative research. Based on anecdotal accounts of coauthor beh
avior in prior literature and original qualitative research conducted in th
e present study, coauthor behavior items were developed and included in a m
ail survey sent to researchers in the field of management. Exploratory fact
or analysis of data received from 111 respondents suggested the following m
ajor dimensions of coauthor behavior: (a) consideration, (b) dependability,
and (c) selfishness. The research and practical implications of these find
ings are discussed.
