Abstract
We present a theoretical model of photorefractive parametric oscillati on that is capable of explaining the occurrence of so-called longitudi nal, degenerate, and transversal parametric oscillation in photorefrac tive crystals. It appears that transversal parametric oscillation occu rs in a parameter region that, until now, has been overlooked in the l iterature. Moreover, we present experiments on the different parametri c processes that qualitatively verify our theoretical results. (C) 199 7 Optical Society of America
