Abstract
By constant temperature molecular dynamics simulation of Gay-Berne model wi th walls, the formation of liquid crystalline orders is studied, where typi cal three types of walls are tested. The wall is shown to work as a symmetr y breaking field both for smectic order and nematic short range order of po sition. In addition to the surface-stabilised smectic A phase, smectic C ph ases stabilised topologically by the periodic boundary condition are obtain ed. In case these phases coexist it takes quite long time to achieve a unif orm state of thermal equilibrium.
