The relation between the pole placement technique and rite optimal reg
ulator technique of discrete time system is presented. It is shown tha
t the closed loop system based on both techniques, and under certain c
onditions, has a common Lyapunov function. It bridges rite gap between
these two methods for discrete-time systems, and makes them more unde
