Abstract
The process of spontaneous formation of solitons in a two-component resonan tly absorbing medium is analyzed. The qualitative analysis shows that two t ypes of soliton like pulses, which have substantially different properties, can exist in such a medium The results of numerical simulation are compare d with the known sine-Gordon and double sine-Ciordon models, which are part icular cases of the equations considered.
