Abstract
The problem of determination of statistical characteristics of a light fiel d studied in a lateral-shift interferometer is considered. Within the frame work of the correlation theory, an equation for the case of an ideal interf erometer is derived, which describes the relation between the contrast of a n interference pattern and statistical characteristics of light radiation b eing analyzed. An analysis of the problem is presented and the comparison w ith a model experiment is made.
