Abstract
The present study examined the relationship between religious orientation a nd schizotypal traits. One hundred and ninety-five English students complet ed measures of an intrinsic orientation towards religion, an extrinsic orie ntation towards religion and schizotypal personality traits. The results su ggest that, among men, an intrinsic orientation towards religion accounts f or unique variance in borderline personality, and, among women, an extrinsi c social orientation towards religion accounts for unique variance in borde rline personality and Paranoid and Suspiciousness aspects of the schizotypy personality. These findings demonstrate partial support for the suggestion that religiosity is related to schizotypal personality traits. However the relationship between religiosity and schizotypal personality traits seems to be gender specific, and applicable only to particular aspects of religio sity and schizotypal personality traits, and of a limited strength.
