New cotton cultivars for the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil: EPAMIG-4 (Redencao) and EPAMIG-5 (Precoce-1)

Two new cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) cultivars, EPAMIG-4 (Redencao) and E PAMIG-5 (Precoce-1) released by Empresa de Pesquisa Agropecuaria de Minas G erais (EPAMIG) are available for cotton growers of the State of Minas Gerai s, Brazil. Their agronomic characters and fiber traits are described in abs olute values and in comparison with the check cultivar utilized. The former was derived from a selection in individual plant basis on a production fie ld of cultivar IAC-17 and is recommended for planting in all cotton-produci ng regions of Minas Gerais. The latter was selected from the introduced str ain C-25-1-80, and is recommended for planting in the northern areas of the same State. Both are high yielding cultivars under irrigation or dryland c onditions and present excellent agronomic performance together with high fi ber properties.
