Abstract
We make a distinction between two topologically different types of intermit tency: isolated, as in spirals, and non-isolated, as in fractals. For a bro ad class of isolated and a broad class of non-isolated intermittent topolog ies, the flatness F(r) of velocity differences and the eddy capacity DE obt ained from a wavelet analysis are related by F(r)similar to r(DE-1). Inertial range intermittency is such that D-E less than or equal to 0.94 an d F(r) similar to r(-0.11) for jet turbulence with Re-lambda = 835 and for grid turbulence with Re-lambda = 3050.
