This paper describes initial work carried out to advance the Erse of vision
metrology and three dimensional visualization techniques in structural tes
ting and monitoring. A description is given of a methodology for semi-autom
atically generating dynamic three dimensional computer graphics models, whi
ch is employed to provide a three dimensional spatial framework for convent
ional engineering instrumentation. The use of techniques developed for two
structural measurement applications is explained and opportunities for curr
ent and future research are reported.
