Kc. Shimpi et al., DECORATIVE COATINGS PRODUCED USING COMBINATION OF REACTIVE ARC EVAPORATION AND MAGNETRON SPUTTERING, Surface & coatings technology, 90(1-2), 1997, pp. 115-122
Composite coatings, consisting mainly of transition metal nitride and
gold-ahoy thin films, an produced on stainless steel substrates using
a combination of reactive are evaporation and magnetron sputtering. Th
e coatings are evaluated for their porosity, damage due to arcing, per
spiration and adhesion. Thickness, surface roughness, surface morpholo
gy, hue and gloss are also determined. Based on these tests and measur
ements, a decorative coating is developed for an application to wrist-
watch straps. The study on optimization of process parameters for the
coating is presented in this paper.
