Abstract
Copaly(styrene/butadiene/vinyl pyridene) latex based adhesive has been used for bonding wood samples. The effect of prevulcanisation of the latex comp ounds on the lap shear strength was studied. The variation of ammonium case inate, cooked starch, carboxy methyl cellulose, and resorcinol Formaldehyde resins on joint strength was determined. The resistance of the adhesive jo ints in cold water, hot water, acids, and alkalis was studied and the stora ge life of the adhesive latexes was determined. The VP latex based adhesive s were found to be superior to natural rubber latex based adhesive and comp arable with Fevicol adhesive.
