Histiostrongylus spineus n. sp. is described from the bat Phyllostomus disc
olor caught in Peru and in Nicaragua. Parahistiostrongylus octacanthus Lent
& Freitas, 1940 is redescribed. H. spineus is distinguished from the other
species of the genus, H. coronatus Molin, 1861 mainly by the disposition o
f the bursal rays 6 and 8, the dorsal ray and the oesophagus. The validity
of both genera is confirmed.
