Abstract
Hipparion namaquense from Areb, high Namaqualand, dates from the early Plio cene (c. 6-4 Myr ago). Its discovery in strata below 15 metres of calcrete provides biochronological control on some of the more recent geological and palaeoclimatological events in Northern Cape Province.
