Sj. Wolstencroft et al., Orbital metastasis due to interval lobular carcinoma of the breast - A potential mimic of lymphoma, ARCH OPHTH, 117(10), 1999, pp. 1419-1421
A 53-year-old woman had an orbital mass composed of a neoplastic small roun
d cell infiltrate and no apparent extraorbital primary tumor. Although the
initial diagnosis was primary orbital lymphoma, a combination of mucin hist
ochemistry and immunohistochemical staining for cytokeratin and estrogen re
ceptors led to the discovery of an impalpable lobular carcinoma of the brea
st. We discuss how detailed histopathological assessment can lead to benefi
cial therapy.
