The lithium abundance in the atmosphere of the lithium-rich giant HD 9746 (
K1 III), log N(Li) = 3.6 +/- 0.3, is determined by modeling resonance (lamb
da 670.8 nm) and subordinate (lambda 610.4 nm) lithium lines. Allowance for
non-LTE effects resolves the 0.45 dex discrepancy between the log N (Li) v
alues derived from the resonance and subordinate doublets. The resulting li
thium abundance exceeds the "cosmic" value (3.3 dex), suggesting a short-li
ved lithium-enrichment phase in HD 9746.
