The extract of the roots of Panax notoginseng (Araliaceae) exhibited a sign
ificant anti-tumor-promoting activity on two-stage carcinogenesis of mouse
skin tumors induced by 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA) as an initiato
r and a mycotoxin, fumonisin B1, as a non-12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acet
ate (non-TPA) type promoter. Further. the extract exhibited the anti-tumor-
initiating activity on tno-stage carcinogenesis of mouse skin tumors induce
d by a nitric oxide donor, (+/-)-(E)-methyl-2-[(E)-hydroxyimino]-5-nitro-6-
methoxy-3-hexenamide (NOR-1) as an initiator and TPA as a promoter.
