The second triennial FASEB Summer Research Conference on ''Clonal Sene
scence and Differentiation'' (August 17-22, 1996) focused on the inter
relationships between aging processes and DNA damage and repair. The a
ttendees represented a cross section of senior and junior investigator
s working in fields ranging from classic cellular gerontology to Feast
and nematode models of aging to basic mechanisms of DNA damage and re
pair, The meeting opened with a keynote address by Dr. Bruce Ames that
emphasized the documented relationships between oxidative damage, can
cer, and aging. This was followed by eight platform sessions, one post
er discussion, one featured presentation, and an after-dinner address.
