The sorption and gas-chromatographic properties of super-cross-linked Styro
sorb polystyrene sorbents are studied with respect to halogenated hydrocarb
ons, including Freons. The dependences of the retention values on the param
eters of the porous structure of Styrosorbs and the nature of the molecules
being adsorbed are found. The retention of halogenated hydrocarbons is det
ermined by the porosity of sorbents, the boiling points of adsorbates, and
the polarizabilities and dipole moments of the molecules being adsorbed, as
well as by the distance of an adsorbed molecule from the adsorbent surface
. The capacity of Styrosorbs also depends on the procedure used in their sy
nthesis. In the region of small fillings of the pore volume, among the test
ed samples the highest retention is observed for the Styrosorb with the spe
cific surface area of 1000 m(2)/g.
