The X-ray crystal structure of bis(1,1-dimethylguanidinium) tetrachlorocupr
ate, (C3H10N3)(2)CuCl4, is studied at 293 and 408 K, and the magnetic prope
rties are measured in the range 1.7-300 K. It is shown that the shift of a
maximum of the absorption band and the corresponding change in color of the
compound result from distortions of the coordination polyhedron of the cop
per atom.
