The spill magnetic susceptibility of the p-d model is calculated by means o
f a perturbation theory in the hybridization term V through a generalized c
umulant expansion (GCE). The analysis is approached from the paramagnetic m
etallic phase. The results qualitatively reproduce some unusual magnetic pr
operties in the normal state of the hole-doped cuprates, supporting the sce
nario of a Van Hove singularity near the Fermi level.
