Abstract
The synthesis of 11 new N-substituted derivatives of (E)-4'-hydroxy-3'-meth oxystilbazoles-4 and their antimicrobial activity are reported. The relatio nships between structure and antibacterial activity are studied. In particu lar, compounds 5, 7 and 8 showed good antibacterial activity against Staphy lococcus aureus, Streptococcus faecalis and Bacillus subtilis, while compou nd 6 did so against S. aureus and S. faecalis.
