The size effect in ferroelectric particles is studied within the framework
of the transverse Ising model. The range and anisotropy of pseudo-spin inte
ractions are important factors affecting the finite size behavior. For a gi
ven ferroelectric, a long force range corresponds to a smaller polarization
, a lower Tc and a larger critical size. Due to the anisotropy of the inter
action, the polarization distribution is ellipsoidal with the long axis in
the polar direction.
