Abstract
Surface energy is an important surface property of a magnetic recording dis k There are three predominant factors that influence the surface energy of a disk: 1) lubricant, 2) carbon overcoat and 3) interaction between the lub ricant and carbon overcoat. Ln this work we show how the lubricant thicknes s and cal bon overcoat composition influence the surface energy of the disk Furthermore, me are able to ascertain interactions at the lubricant-overco at interface by studying the surface energy of the disk.
